Individual Therapy

518953855Even when you “have it all together”

Life can still overwhelm you.

You landed that great job but now have to work overtime to keep up. You might be asking yourself, “When are they going to discover I can’t really handle this??”

Or the dog you’ve raised since he was a pup passed away. You can’t stop crying… and don’t feel like going anywhere. You think, “Will I always feel this way?”

Maybe you’re getting ready to leave on a trip of a lifetime, but you can’t stop worrying about EVERY little thing. “What if I get sick?” “What if I don’t meet anybody?” “What if it rains the whole time??”

Above all, you wonder, “Why can’t I just enjoy myself?”

Things just haven’t worked out…

Hook-ups, dating, relationships… you’ve had a few, but they leave you disappointed, wondering, “Do I just have bad luck??”

You came to New York City for your art, but you had to pay the bills. Now you’re stuck in a career where you’re making enough money, but a part of you remains unfulfilled.

Worries, fear, and sadness are getting in the way of living the life you want.

Individual therapy can help in all of these situations because the focus is on understanding YOU – on your needs and solutions that work for YOU.

Individual therapy doesn’t just mean it’s therapy for an individual; it also means the therapy is as unique as you. It’s the one time each week when everything is absolutely, positively about you.

Aside from a little chit-chat at the start of each session (and maybe a little bit about my cat here and there), we will focus on what YOU think and feel.

I want to know about “your best life.”

How do you want your life to look after therapy?

Worried about people thinking you’re an imposter? Therapy will give you a more realistic outlook and confidence in yourself. You’ll say, “I’m very good at what I do… and I enjoy working on improving my skills and learning new things.”

Therapy will give you time to talk about, remember, and honor the memory of your beloved dog. You’ll be able to think of him fondly – to hold his favorite toy in your hand and smile instead of cry.

In therapy, you’ll learn to overcome those worries about your trip and have an amazing time. The next trip, you’ll remind yourself that you always have a good time, even when things don’t go as planned.

Together, we’ll take a good long look at your relationship patterns and help you identify “red flags.” You’ll also learn to set boundaries with others, opening yourself up to people who truly care about you.

And even if you still have that “day job” that pays the bills, you’ll have the fortitude to pick up your horn and start playing again. Maybe you’ll take the weekend warrior path for a little while, but you never know where that could lead!

Making small changes will bring you closer to your best life.

If you’re being constantly overwhelmed by too many obligations, it’s possible you’re saying “yes” too quickly. When asked for favors or volunteer for something, try saying, “Let me get back to you on that.” That will give you more time to really see if it’s something you can fit in your schedule. That small change can relieve a lot of stress!

You’ll learn new strategies, skills, and techniques to practice between sessions.

You will learn to identify those worried thoughts as soon as they get in your way… and how to respond in a more helpful way. Your worried voice might say, “What if it rains the whole trip?” You can answer: “Well, what if it does? It’s not what I wanted, but there are plenty of things to see and do inside.”

Therapy helps you clarify and understand what matters most to you.

One of the things my clients really enjoy is doing a “values worksheet.” Together, we’ll look at different categories of importance (e.g., friends, romance, money, family, creativity, spirituality, volunteering) and identify how important each is to you. Then, we’ll look at how much time you’re allotting to those values that matter most. Getting that back in balance can make a tremendous difference in how fulfilled you feel in your daily life.

Get ready to handle whatever comes your way!

Those thoughts that keep you from falling asleep at night? They just won’t bother you anymore.

The tasks you always put off? You’ll know what you need to do to get them done.

That crippling self-doubt? You’ll have a new confidence in yourself.

Dealing with difficult people? You’ll know how to set boundaries, protect yourself, and rise above the noise.

Eventually, you’ll have all the tools you’ll need to be your own therapist and can come to me for “booster” sessions when you need them.

I look forward to meeting you and getting started. Call today for your free consultation: (917) 524-9839.
